The Mongolian aid organization ASRAL CENTER NGO asks us to help two poor families. The first family consists of the shepherd Ulziidelger, his wife and their five children, who are between 3 and 13 years old. Due to a natural disaster ten years ago, they lost all their livestock and with it their only means of existence. The family then moved to the capital of Mongolia, 700 kilometers away, in the hope of finding work there. After kidney surgery the 34-year-old father is no longer able to support his family. He does help his wife, who cleans porches in apartment buildings in the capital. The couple lives in a closet; a storage room under a concrete staircase in one of the apartment buildings. Because this emergency facility is too small for the whole family, the children had to be accommodated elsewhere. After the foundation had a sturdy nomad tent with an iron stove built for them, the family was reunited.

The second family consists of a single mother, Ms. Enkhmaa, with three children between the ages of 2 and 10. After the divorce, the father took the living tent with him and left the children and mother without a roof over their heads. Their mother tries to keep her children alive by delivering coffee and tea on the ‘black market’ on the outskirts of the capital. The aid organization has ensured that the two youngest children can go to kindergarten and regularly provides the oldest child with a hot meal. As ASRAL’s resources are limited, the organization has asked us to donate a living tent. We had a heavy tent with a stove built, so that Enkhmaa and her children can stay together and have a permanent, safe home. Both tents could be donated by us thanks to the help of School community De Waerdenborgh in Holten .

Help underprivileged children in Mongolia

Since 2006, the foundation tries to improve the situation of the children in Mongolia each year. Thanks to donations and collection campaigns, we have built 26 gers (living shelters).

Even a relatively small amount of money can do a lot, because in Mongolia, where many herders earn barely twenty euros a month, your money is worth more than five times that!
