The family of Munkhjargal and Bolor Bataa, whose father has become completely blind, has received a new ger from the Steppekinderen Foundation after they had to leave their rental home.
Update May 30, 2017: New housing for the Bataa family ready
On April 25, 2017, we received an urgent request for help from our employee in Mongolia. It concerns a family that lives in the basement of an apartment in Ulaanbaatar, but is no longer able to pay the rent.
The father, Munkhjargal Bataa, is 30 years old and can no longer work after being the victim of a crime. On December 26, 2016, he got involved in a violent group fight against his will, where he was stabbed in both eyes and became blind as a result. His 27-year-old wife Bolor is unemployed and expecting their third child. They have two sons, Dulguunkhuslen who is 4 years old and Enkhdulguun who is 2 years old.
Now that the father is completely blind and incapacitated for work, he receives benefits, but it is too low to pay the rent for the cellar. The mother receives a supplementary benefit from a welfare fund to be able to care for her husband, but their combined income is too small to support the family properly.
If the Steppekinderen Foundation gives them a living tent (ger), they can leave the basement and they will be assigned a pitch for the tent with their family. This way they will have enough money left over to live on. Our employee in Ulaanbaatar has been instructed to start building the tent and will soon place it himself on the available spot.

Since 2006, the foundation tries to improve the situation of the children in Mongolia each year. Thanks to donations and collection campaigns, we have built 26 gers (living shelters).
Even a relatively small amount of money can do a lot, because in Mongolia, where many herders earn barely twenty euros a month, your money is worth more than five times that!
Thank you to all who support our small but important work!
