Help for the Bataa family
A father who became blind, his pregnant wife and two young children receive help from the Steppekinderen Foundation with a living tent (ger) after they can no longer afford their basement space.
On the 30th of May 2017, the family of Munkhjargal and Bolor Bataa received a new home from the Steppekinderen Foundation. Our employee in Mongolia, Altantulga, has built a large living tent and set it up together with some volunteers, in which the couple now lives with their two children and with a baby on the way.
The father, who became completely blind as a victim of a crime, told us that he and his wife are very happy with our help and have hope for the future again.
Before the accident they lived in the basement of an apartment , but because Munkhjargal became unable to work, they could no longer pay the rent for the basement.
The living tent - ger - is set up in the northern hills of Ulaanbaatar. The photos show different phases of the relief project, such as pouring sand, leveling the raised ground, laying the nine-part wooden floor, building the frame and covering the slats with thick layers of felt and canvas tied tightly with thick ropes. We also see the brand new stove that will be given a permanent place in the middle of the tent after the completion of the ger.
The money that used to be spent on the rent of the cellar can now be used for daily shopping and for the education of the children.

Since 2006, the foundation tries to improve the situation of the children in Mongolia each year. Thanks to donations and collection campaigns, we have built 26 gers (living shelters).
Even a relatively small amount of money can do a lot, because in Mongolia, where many herders earn barely twenty euros a month, your money is worth more than five times that!
Thank you to all who support our small but important work!
