Help for single mother with four children

The family in front of the new ger

On April 21, we received an urgent request for help from Ulaanbaatar. Ms. Zolzaya Chimedtseren, a single, hard-working, 42-year-old mother of four, was suddenly at risk of becoming homeless with her family. The company where she had worked as a security guard and saleswoman for nine years was to close in May. Not only would she lose her job, but also the brick watchman’s cottage in which she and her children were living.

Zolzaya cannot afford a place to live, because she spends all her money on food, clothes, fuel and school supplies for her children; her daughter of age 15 and sons aged 10, 8 and 3.

Even though the watchman’s cottage of the company she worked for was in a deplorable state, it still offered safe shelter and, above all, protection against the icy winter cold.

The Steppekinderen Foundation had a traditional ger built for this vulnerable family, which was delivered on time in May. The photos show the living conditions inside and outside the watchman’s cottage and the construction and completion of the living tent. This newly-built tent offers the family hope for the future.

Help underprivileged children in Mongolia

Since 2006, the foundation tries to improve the situation of the children in Mongolia each year. Thanks to donations and collection campaigns, we have built 26 gers (living shelters).

Even a relatively small amount of money can do a lot, because in Mongolia, where many herders earn barely twenty euros a month, your money is worth more than five times that!
